I found a fabulous restaurant while attending a charity event on July 31st, supporting The Heights Foundation. It’s a hidden gem called the Roadhouse Café (located in the plaza behind the Super Target on San Carlos). It’s a classy, upscale dining establishment that’s perfect for a romantic date night. As you know (and if you don’t, you do now) I love to dress up and go on dates with Tunde and this is a great place to do it!
I attended the event with a friend of mine, Danielle. The goal of the charity event was to raise money for the Heights Foundation, which helps support education and wellness in the Harlem Heights neighborhood. Throughout the night over $10,000 raised by tipping “Celebrity” waiters and bidding on auction items. Items were auctioned between dancing to live Jazz music and eating wonderfully flavored food made by Executive Chef, Brian Baker. There were many fabulous raffle prizes, such as a private yacht for an evening of wine and hors d’oeuvres (for up to 10 friends – unfortunately, I didn’t win that one). Every table had a Celebrity waiter card on it and you could write down what you wanted the waiter(s) to do for a price (donation). Our Celebrity waiter was Swifty. Pierre also graced our table with his presence and kisses on our hands.
Since it had been a long work day I decided to start the evening with a glass of wine. I had a hard time choosing from all the options and decided on a glass of “Conundrum” because it was fitting for the situation. It had a wonderful light flavor; perfect for a summer evening. For appetizers we had crab cakes and buffalo mozzarella with pesto. The crab cakes were fabulously meaty and had a great sauce to complement them. The buffalo mozzarella was like a stacked caprese salad (which I love) and it was wonderfully accented with pesto. For the main course, we had the chicken parmesan and linguini with portabella and goat cheese. Like our appetizers, they were both wonderfully flavored. Danielle made a wonderful date for the evening. I’m looking forward to going there with Tunde for a date night. It’s a hidden gem in SWFL that I think everyone needs to find!
